Gibson style blank truss rod cover

Thanks guys for your quick responses! I am attaching some photos of my banjo hopefully for more clarification. Mine looks very similar to the RB 250 in Scott's photo above, with the gap of wood before the fret block. (Note: no indication of a screw hole in the middle bottom under the truss rod cover). Also, if you search in the banjo hideout forum classified archives under... For Sale: GIBSON RB250 from JLS BANJO COLLECTION Item #41 (expired) you will find in the 3rd picture a close up of another Gibson banjo head stock with the same 3 screw configuration as mine. The lady that placed the add emailed me that her husband was a very good luthier before he passed away and that banjo was a part of his personal collection she sold. Unfortunately, she did not know any additional information on it. Also, one of my photos I am sending shows the Made in U.S.A. below the serial number 177209 stamped on the back of my peg head. Thanks, Paul N.

My gut reaction is that this is likely a Japanese neck that has been modified. Without pictures, it is pure speculation. I have never seen a Gibson banjo with an original 3-screw truss rod cover.
